Collection: Lighting

Studio strobes, speedlites, LED video lights, RGB fixtures, modifiers and stands. Lighting is the fastest route from amateur-looking images to professional ones — faster than any camera upgrade.

Flash or continuous

Flash delivers far more power in an instant, which is what you need to overpower Indian daylight on an outdoor portrait or to freeze motion cleanly. Continuous LED lets you see exactly what you are getting before you shoot, which speeds up setup and is mandatory for video. Most working photographers own both; if you shoot video at all, start with LED.

The modifier makes the light, not the head

A bare flash produces hard, unflattering light regardless of what it cost. Softboxes and octaboxes enlarge the source relative to the subject, which is what softens shadows. Beauty dishes give controlled contrast for portraits. Grids and snoots restrict spill so you can light a subject without lighting the wall. Check the mount — Bowens S-type is the most widely supported — so modifiers carry across heads.

Colour temperature and CRI

Bi-colour fixtures adjust between tungsten and daylight so you can match ambient light rather than fight it, which is the single most useful control in mixed-light Indian interiors. Check CRI or TLCI ratings on LED: a low-CRI light renders skin tones badly in a way no amount of grading fully repairs.

Stands and safety

Match the stand's load rating to your heaviest fixture with its modifier attached, and sandbag anything tall. A softbox acts as a sail; any breeze on an outdoor location will take down an unweighted stand and the light on it.
