Collection: Tripod & Support

Tripods, monopods, fluid heads and support. The specification that matters is not maximum height โ€” it is load capacity, and most buyers get this wrong.

Load rating, with margin

Add your heaviest body, your heaviest lens, and anything mounted on top โ€” monitor, microphone, cage. Then buy a tripod rated well above that. A tripod running near its limit vibrates, creeps during long exposures, and will eventually drop your camera. The rating is a ceiling, not a target.

Ball head or fluid head

A ball head repositions fast in any direction and is what stills photographers want. A fluid head is damped, so pans and tilts move smoothly instead of jerking โ€” essential for video, and useless for quick stills reframing. If you shoot both, this is the decision to think about hardest; many people end up owning one of each rather than compromising.

Carbon fibre or aluminium

Carbon fibre is lighter for the same stiffness and damps vibration better, which matters if you carry it all day or shoot long exposures. Aluminium costs considerably less and is heavier โ€” which is occasionally an advantage, since a heavier tripod is harder to knock over. Carbon also stays comfortable to handle in Indian summer heat, where aluminium legs get genuinely hot.

Monopods

A monopod carries the weight of a long lens with a fraction of the setup time and footprint, which is why it is standard for sport, wildlife and crowded events โ€” and often the only support permitted in venues that ban tripods.
