Humidity is the real threat to your lenses

In coastal Indian cities and through the monsoon, ambient humidity sits well above the level at which fungus germinates inside a lens barrel. Once it etches the coating the damage is permanent, and repair costs a serious fraction of the lens value. Controlled storage between 35% and 45% relative humidity prevents it entirely. This is preventative spending, not an accessory.

Cabinets, boxes and cases

Electronic dry cabinets actively regulate humidity and run continuously at negligible power — the right choice for a working kit stored at home or in a studio. Sealed dry boxes with desiccant are a lower-cost option for smaller kits or travel. Hard cases with foam inserts protect against impact in transit rather than humidity, so many photographers use both.
