Collection: Professional Audio

Microphones, wireless systems and recording gear. Audio is where amateur work gives itself away first — viewers forgive soft focus far more readily than they forgive bad sound.

Why the on-camera mic is not enough

Distance is everything in audio. A microphone at the camera is metres from your subject, so it records the room — reflections, traffic, air conditioning, the crowd — at nearly the same level as the voice. Moving the mic close to the speaker fixes what no amount of post-processing can. That is the entire reason lavaliers and boom-mounted shotguns exist.

Lavalier or shotgun

A wireless lavalier clips to the subject and travels with them — the right answer for interviews, weddings, corporate and anything where the speaker moves. A shotgun on a boom stays just outside frame and uses a narrow pickup pattern to reject sound from the sides; it sounds more natural but needs an operator and accurate aim. It is not a fix for a bad room.

Wireless in Indian venues

RF congestion is the practical limit, not the advertised range. Crowded urban venues, hotel ballrooms and event grounds are dense with competing transmitters. Systems with wide tuning ranges and quick frequency scanning are worth the price difference on multi-camera events. Check how many channels you can run simultaneously and confirm battery runtime against your actual shoot length, not the headline figure.

Monitor while you record

Closed-back headphones on the recordist are not optional. Audio problems are invisible on a meter and obvious in the ear, and they are unfixable once everyone has gone home.
