Smart adapters

A Smart Adapter passes electronic communication through, so autofocus, aperture control and image stabilisation keep working when a Canon EF lens is mounted on a Sony E-mount body. Autofocus performance through an adapter is generally slower than native, so it suits deliberate shooting more than fast-moving subjects — worth testing with your specific body and lens combination.

What a Speed Booster actually does

A Speed Booster is not just an adapter. Its optics compress the full-frame image circle onto a smaller sensor, which widens the field of view and gains roughly a stop of light — a 0.71x version turns an f/2.8 lens into an effective f/2. On an APS-C body it partly restores the full-frame look of the original lens. That extra stop is a genuine advantage in low-light event and documentary work.

PL-to-E adapters mount ARRI PL cinema lenses on Sony E-mount bodies, letting rental cinema glass work with a compact camera — common on Indian commercial and music video shoots where a full cinema body is not in budget.
