Collection: Dry Cabinets

Humidity-controlled storage for cameras and lenses. In India this is not an accessory โ€” it is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy on your kit.

Fungus is how Indian photographers lose lenses

Fungal spores are present in ordinary air. They germinate inside a lens barrel when relative humidity stays high, which in coastal cities and through the monsoon is most of the year. Once fungus etches a lens coating the damage is permanent: repair costs a serious fraction of the lens value, and badly affected elements are not repairable at all. It grows in the dark, in a closed bag, over months โ€” which is why it is usually discovered far too late.

What a dry cabinet does

It holds relative humidity in the 35โ€“45% band where fungus cannot establish, continuously and automatically. Power draw is negligible โ€” comparable to a small bulb โ€” so running cost is trivial against the value of what is inside. Unlike silica gel, it does not need recharging and does not silently stop working when saturated.

Sizing it

Buy larger than your current kit. Capacity is quoted in litres, and bodies with lenses attached, plus flashes, drones, batteries and a laptop, fill a cabinet far faster than expected. Check the humidity range is adjustable โ€” film, paper and documents want different settings from digital gear.
