Reading the speed ratings

Card marketing quotes peak read speed, but the number that decides whether your camera drops frames is sustained write speed. For video, look for the V-class rating: V30 handles most 4K, V60 and V90 are needed for high-bitrate 4K and 8K, and ProRes or RAW recording pushes higher still. For stills burst shooting, UHS-II cards clear the buffer far faster than UHS-I on a body that supports them — and give no benefit on a body that does not.
