Hardware RAID 1 writes every file to both drives, so a drive can fail and your photos and projects are still there. RAID 0 stripes the two drives for full capacity and the highest speed. Which Capacity to Choose

In RAID 1 the usable space is half the listed capacity, because every file is stored twice. An 8TB 2big RAID gives 4TB of protected storage; a 36TB unit gives 18TB. In RAID 0 you get the full listed capacity but no second copy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 2big RAID have Thunderbolt?
It connects over USB-C at USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) and works when plugged into a Thunderbolt 3, 4 or 5 port. It does not have Thunderbolt daisy chaining or card readers; the 2big Dock does.

Is RAID 1 a backup?
RAID 1 protects you against a single drive failing. It does not protect against deleting a file by mistake, theft or fire, so keep a second copy of important work elsewhere.

Can I replace a drive myself?
Yes. The drives are hot-swappable, so a failed drive can be replaced while the 2big RAID is running and RAID 1 rebuilds onto the new one.

Does it work with Windows and Mac?
Yes. It ships formatted exFAT, which reads and writes on both. It can be reformatted HFS+ for Time Machine or NTFS for Windows.

Can I connect it to an iPad or iPhone?
Yes, over USB-C. Seagate lists iPadOS 14 or later on iPad Pro 3rd generation, iPad Air 4th generation and newer, and iPhone 15 and newer.
