For a small room in India, start with one bi-colour LED video light plus one big soft source, and add colour effects later. Pick a light by colour quality, adjustable colour temperature and the size of the diffuser, not by the biggest number on the box. That covers product shots, interviews and YouTube. The NiceFoto range has panels, umbrella lights, a tube light and an RGB light in stock now.
Wattage versus real output
Wattage is the power a light draws from the wall. It is not the light you get. Two lights with the same wattage can look very different on camera, because LED efficiency, the lens and the diffuser all change what reaches your subject.
Model numbers add to the confusion. A name like FC-6000A or AR-600A is a product code. Do not read it as watts, lumens or lux unless the maker says so. Check the maker's own spec sheet for output figures, and treat any number that has no stated test distance as marketing.
The store pages for the NiceFoto lights below do not list watts or lux, so this guide does not quote any. Ask for the maker's datasheet before you buy if you need an exact figure.
CRI and TLCI: colour quality
CRI (Colour Rendering Index) scores how faithfully a light shows colours compared with a reference source. TLCI (Television Lighting Consistency Index) was made for video and scores how a light behaves through a camera. Higher is better on both.
Why it matters in India: skin tones, fabric colours and packaging reds are the first things a cheap LED gets wrong. If you shoot sarees, jewellery or food, colour accuracy matters more than raw brightness.
The NiceFoto product pages describe good colour accuracy but do not publish CRI or TLCI values. Ask for the figures in writing, or shoot a colour chart with the light before a paid job.
Bi-colour, daylight-only or RGB
Daylight-only
A fixed daylight light is simple and usually the cleanest choice when you control the room. The NiceFoto AR-600B is the daylight-balanced version. Choose this if you shoot near windows or mix with daylight and never need warm light.
Bi-colour
Bi-colour lights let you dial between warm and cool. They help when room bulbs are warm and you do not want to switch them all off. The NiceFoto AR-600A bi-colour LED video light is the panel to look at for this. The NiceFoto AT-200AU inflatable tube light is also bi-colour and packs down small.
RGB
RGB lights make coloured backgrounds, music-video looks and accent light. The NiceFoto BJ-150CZ RGB light also gives white light. RGB is a creative extra. Do not use it as your only key light for accurate colour work, and do not buy RGB if all you need is a clean interview.
LED panels, COB lights and softboxes
An LED panel is a flat array of many small LEDs. A COB light packs the LEDs into one bright emitter, usually used with a reflector or Bowens-mount modifier. COB gives a small, strong point source that needs shaping. Panels give a gentler spread straight out of the box.
The NiceFoto lights in stock are panel-style video lights (AR-600A, AR-600B, FC-2000A, FC-3000A, LV-3000C, FC-6000A, QY-2000A), umbrella lights (DF60-1000A, DF90-2000A, DL120-3000A), the AT-200AU tube light and the BJ-150CZ RGB light. None of these listings is a COB light, so if you specifically want a COB with Bowens mount, ask the store what else can be sourced.
Softboxes and umbrellas do the same job: make the source bigger so shadows fall off softly. Bigger and closer means softer light. An umbrella is quicker to set up and fold away. A softbox gives tighter control and less spill on a background.
Power: AC or battery
Mains power is the right default for a fixed studio or a home-office YouTube corner. It runs for hours without worry. Battery lets you shoot in a wedding hall corner or a train station with no socket nearby.
The store pages for these NiceFoto lights do not state battery compatibility or the power adapter type. Confirm the power options with the store before you buy, and never assume a battery plate is included. For long sessions in Indian summers, also keep the room ventilated, as lights add heat.
Small-room setups that work
Product photography on a table
Use one soft source from the side and a white card on the other side to bounce light back. An umbrella light such as the NiceFoto DF60-1000A suits a small table. Keep it close to the product for soft shadows.
Interviews
Put the big soft source at about 45 degrees to the subject, slightly above eye level. Add a second, weaker light behind as a hair or background light. A bi-colour panel lets you match the room.
YouTube desk setup
One diffused key at an angle, one small RGB or bi-colour accent behind you, and curtains drawn to stop window light changing mid-shoot. Switch off ceiling tubes that flicker on camera.
Distance matters as much as the light itself. Light falls off quickly as you move it away, so halving the distance gives a big jump in brightness on the subject. In a small room, move the light closer and lower its brightness instead of buying a stronger unit. Closer also means a larger apparent source, which means softer shadows.
Set white balance by hand on the camera and keep it fixed. If you mix a warm room bulb with a daylight panel, the skin tone will shift between shots. Either switch the room bulbs off or match the panel to them using a bi-colour light.
Comparison table
| Type | Best for | Watch out for | In-stock example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daylight panel | Clean interviews, product shots | No warm option | NiceFoto AR-600B |
| Bi-colour panel | Mixed room light, general video | Check colour values | NiceFoto AR-600A |
| Umbrella light | Portraits, products, headshots | Spills light on walls | NiceFoto DF60-1000A |
| Inflatable tube | Travel, soft accent light | Not a main key for big rooms | NiceFoto AT-200AU |
| RGB light | Backgrounds, music videos | Not a primary accuracy light | NiceFoto BJ-150CZ |
Packing and carrying
Lights and stands break in transit more often than cameras do, especially on Indian trains and domestic flights. A foam-lined case is cheap insurance. See our guide on the lighting kit hard case for how to pack panels and COB lights.
Which one should you pick?
Pick the AR-600A if you want one flexible panel for a small studio. Pick the AR-600B if your room is controlled and you want the simplest path. Pick the DF60-1000A if you shoot products and portraits and want soft light fast. Pick the BJ-150CZ as a second light, not the first.
Skip the biggest panel if your room is small. A powerful light in a tiny room is hard to soften and you will end up dimming it.
Frequently asked questions
Is a higher wattage light always better?
No. Wattage is power drawn, not light delivered. Compare the maker's stated output at a stated distance, and compare colour quality too.
Do I need CRI or TLCI figures?
If colour matters, yes. Ask the seller for the maker's published values. Many pages, including some store listings, only say colour accuracy is good without numbers.
Bi-colour or RGB for YouTube?
Bi-colour for your main light. Add RGB later as a background accent.
Is a COB light better than an LED panel?
Not better, different. COB is a small strong source that needs modifiers. A panel is easier to use without extras.
Can I use an umbrella light for video as well as photos?
Yes, if the light is continuous. The NiceFoto umbrella lights are described by the maker for both photography and video use.
