YC Onion PINETA Monopod: Pro vs 2.0, Extension Tube and Fluid Head Kit Explained

Pick the YC Onion PINETA Pro if you want the taller 162 cm reach, the extension tube option and a ready kit with the FH60S fluid head; pick the PINETA 2.0 if 158 cm and 1.68 kg are enough. Both are carbon fibre pedal-base monopods rated to 10 kg, and both set height and footing with one lever. Neither includes a head. Add a fluid head for video, and choose a tripod instead if the camera must stay put on its own.
This guide sticks to the figures printed on our product pages. Where a number is not listed, we say so instead of guessing.
What a pedal-base monopod actually does
A normal monopod needs you to hold it upright. A pedal-base monopod adds a folding base with wide feet at the bottom, so the rig stands steadier and you can swivel it for pans. YC Onion adds a lever that extends and locks the leg sections and the base in one action, which matters when you are changing height between takes.
That suits a wedding videographer moving through a baraat, a wildlife shooter waiting at a waterhole with a long lens, a sports shooter at the boundary, or a travel creator who cannot carry a full tripod through a crowded station. You still keep a hand on the rig. The product pages say the base steadies the monopod for shooting, not that it replaces a tripod.
PINETA Pro: what you get
The YC Onion PINETA Pro MQP162 is a carbon fibre monopod with a folding pedal base, supplied without a head. One ergonomic brake lever with a lock button extends and locks all three leg sections and the base together.
- Maximum height: 162 cm (63.8 in)
- Folded length: 78 cm (30.7 in)
- Load: 10 kg (22 lb)
- Weight: 1.78 kg (3.9 lb)
- Side mounts: one ARRI-style mount and two 1/4 in-20 threads for accessories
- Feet: removable wide feet
- In the box: monopod with pedal base, rubber foot, screw set, Allen key, carrying bag
Those side mounts are useful in practice. A small monitor arm, a mic or a light can sit on the monopod body without touching the head.
PINETA 2.0: what you get
The YC Onion PINETA 2.0 MQC158 is also carbon fibre with a folding pedal base and no head. One FEISO lever releases the leg sections and the base together.
- Working height: 76 to 158 cm (29.9 to 62 in)
- Folded length: 76 cm (30 in)
- Load: 10 kg (22 lb)
- Weight: 1.68 kg (3.7 lb)
- Base feet length: 212 mm, with removable wide feet
- Mounting: a 2-in-1 screw that switches between 1/4 in-20 and 3/8 in-16
- In the box: monopod with pedal base, rubber foot, screw set, Allen key, carrying bag
The 2.0 is 100 g lighter and 4 cm shorter at full extension. It folds 2 cm shorter as well. For a rig that fits comfortably inside 158 cm, that is a fair trade.

Do you need the extension tube?
The PMEX53 extension tube is a 52 cm tube that fits on top of the PINETA Pro. It is aluminium and carbon fibre, 34 mm in diameter and weighs 350 g. The top has a quick release plate with a convertible 1/4 in-20 and 3/8 in-16 screw.
One number matters here: the tube carries up to 5 kg laterally, which is half the monopod's 10 kg rating. So it suits a mirrorless body with a light lens, not a heavy telephoto. Keep the tube for shots where you need reach, such as shooting over a crowd at a mandap or a stage event, and take it off when you do not.
Our page says the tube is made for the PINETA Pro. It does not say it fits the 2.0, so do not assume it does.
If you never shoot above 162 cm, skip it. It adds weight and a joint to a rig that is otherwise one piece.
Do you need the fluid head kit?
A monopod with no head gives you a fixed camera angle, or whatever your own head allows. For video, a fluid head is what makes tilts and pans smooth. The PINETA Pro with FH60S fluid head kit (MQP16260S) bundles the two.
The FH60S is an aluminium fluid head on a 60 mm flat base with adjustable drag, 360 degree pan and +90 to -70 degree tilt. It weighs 745 g and is rated to 6 kg. It comes with a pan handle and a side-load Manfrotto-style quick release plate.
Note the limit: the monopod is rated to 10 kg, but with this head the practical ceiling for your camera is the head's 6 kg. For a cinema camera with cage, monitor and a heavy lens, add up the weight before you buy.
Buy the kit if you have no fluid head, since the pieces are matched. Buy the bare monopod if you already own a head you like. For a ball head instead, the store also carries the BC44 Bagel ball head. Ball heads suit stills better than slow video pans.
When a tripod is the better pick
A monopod gives you speed and a small footprint. It does not give you hands-free stability. If any of these describe your shoot, go for a tripod:
- Long static takes, such as interviews, timelapses or a lecture recorded on a fixed frame
- Low-light work with slow shutter speeds, where any body movement shows
- A heavy rig you do not want to hold for an hour
- Shooting alone, when you need to leave the camera to adjust a light
The TAKO TPC177SC tripod is legs only, carbon fibre, rated to 10 kg. The legs set from 23 to 135 cm, the centre column takes the camera to 182 cm, it weighs 2.2 kg and folds to 68 cm. It matches the PINETA monopods on load and is taller at full stretch, though it weighs more. If you also want an option with a head included, there is the PINETA Lite tripod with Cedar CB7 fluid head.
If you want the lightest possible kit with a head, the TAKO Nano monopod with FX50 fluid head is a different tool. It has four sections, works from 70 to 182 cm, folds to 69 cm and weighs 1.1 kg. It also swivels on a pedal base. The trade is load: 8 kg for the monopod and 3 kg for the FX50 head, so it fits a compact mirrorless setup, not a heavy video rig. Pick the Nano for travel and light gear, and a PINETA for heavier cameras.
A quick way to choose
- Heavy video rig, or you want to extend past 162 cm: PINETA Pro, with the extension tube if the load stays under 5 kg on the tube.
- Lighter setup, tighter on weight, 158 cm is tall enough: PINETA 2.0.
- No fluid head yet and shooting video: the PINETA Pro with FH60S kit.
- Compact mirrorless, travel first: TAKO Nano with FX50.
- Static shots or heavy gear you cannot hold: a tripod.
You can browse the full range in our tripods and camera support collection. Carbon fibre support travels well, but it still needs protection on trains and flights. Our guide on how to carry a tripod in a hard case covers the options. Each PINETA listing also notes that the monopod ships with a carrying bag.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the PINETA Pro and the PINETA 2.0?
From our product pages: the Pro reaches 162 cm, weighs 1.78 kg and has an ARRI-style mount plus two 1/4 in-20 threads on the side. The 2.0 works from 76 to 158 cm, weighs 1.68 kg and has a 2-in-1 screw for 1/4 in-20 and 3/8 in-16. Both fold to about 76 to 78 cm and carry 10 kg.
Does the PINETA come with a head?
No. The Pro and the 2.0 are sold without a head. The Pro is also sold as a kit with the FH60S fluid head, and the PINETA 2.0 page suggests adding a fluid head such as the FH60S.
Can the monopod stand on its own?
The pedal base steadies it for shooting, but keep a hand on the rig. For a camera you will leave unattended, use a tripod.
Will the extension tube fit the PINETA 2.0?
Our PMEX53 listing says it is made for the PINETA Pro monopod. It does not list the 2.0, so ask us before buying it for a 2.0.
Are these genuine YC Onion products?
Our listings state that they are genuine, warranty-backed and delivered across India.
