Choose the DM160 for a light OLED monitor, the DM211 or DM231 for a pair of wide-gamut LCDs, and the DM242 for a 10-bit 1920 x 1200 screen. The Flanders Scientific DM series covers HD and SDR work, with two 3G/HD/SD-SDI inputs on every model and brightness of 300 to 400 nits fullscreen.

Which DM for which job
DM160: the portable one
The DM160 weighs 5.8 lbs (2.6 kg) without feet and fits in 6RU with the DM160 rack ears. It is the only DM with an OLED panel, which is why its contrast is 1,000,000:1.
DM211 and DM231: the desk pair
The DM211 (21.5 inch) and DM231 (23.8 inch) are 8-bit wide-gamut LCDs. They suit edit and QC rooms where two matching screens sit side by side.
DM242: the 10-bit pick
The DM242 adds a 10-bit panel and a taller 1920 x 1200 screen. FSI calls it the successor to the DM240 and DM241.
Looking for a DM240 or DM241?
FSI calls the DM242 the successor to the DM240 and DM241, so it is the current model to look at if you were searching for either. It keeps the 24 inch 1920 x 1200 screen and moves to a 10-bit wide-gamut LCD.
When to skip the DM line
If you deliver HDR or work in UHD, look at the XMP range instead. The XMP vs DM guide explains the split.
What every DM shares
All four DM monitors are HD SDR reference monitors with two 3G/HD/SD-SDI inputs, and FSI describes the DM line as its range of advanced high definition SDR reference monitors. Across the range, brightness runs from 300 to 400 nits fullscreen. What changes is the panel, the size and the contrast.
DM160: OLED contrast in a light body
The DM160 is the only OLED in the line: a 15.6 inch 10-bit RGB OLED at 1920 x 1080 with 1,000,000:1 contrast and 400 nits fullscreen. It weighs 5.8 lbs (2.6 kg) without feet, has an all-metal chassis and mounts in 6RU with the DM160 rack ears. That combination suits carts, OB vans, edit benches and any space where weight and depth matter.
DM211 and DM231: the matched pair
FSI describes the DM211 as a lightweight, power-efficient compact version of the DM231, and the DM231 as the larger version of the DM211. Both are 8-bit wide-gamut W-LED backlit LCDs at 1920 x 1080 and 300 nits fullscreen. The 21.5 inch DM211 has 1,300:1 contrast and the 23.8 inch DM231 has 1,500:1. Many facilities pair them in multi-monitor set-ups for editorial and production.
DM242: the 10-bit upgrade
The DM242 is a 24 inch 1920 x 1200 10-bit wide-gamut LCD with 400 nits fullscreen, 1,800:1 contrast and an all-metal chassis. FSI calls it the successor to the DM240 and DM241, with 20% higher contrast than the DM240. It suits facilities upgrading an older DM and anyone who wants a 10-bit 24 inch HD reference screen.
How to choose between them
- Need portability or rack space savings? The DM160.
- Need two matched screens for edit or QC? The DM211 or DM231, depending on desk size.
- Need 10-bit and the extra vertical pixels? The DM242.
- Need HDR? None of these. Read the XMP vs DM guide.
Setting up a DM in an edit or QC room
The DM line is easy to place because the screens are compact and the inputs are simple. All four take two 3G/HD/SD-SDI inputs, so one carries your programme feed and the other can hold a second source or a loop-through chain. Keep the monitor at eye level and out of direct light, because the 300 nit LCD models are best judged in a dimmer room. If you work on location, the DM160 is the practical one: it is light, has an all-metal chassis and fits a rack with the DM160 ears. In a fixed room, a matched DM211 or DM231 pair makes it easy to compare two sources side by side, and the DM242 adds the 10-bit panel when colour depth matters.
