YC Onion TAKO Nano vs PINETA Pro vs PINETA 2.0 Monopod: Which to Buy in India

A side by side look at the YC Onion TAKO Nano, PINETA Pro and PINETA 2.0 carbon fibre monopods: height, weight, payload and who each one suits.

Buy the TAKO Nano if you want a travel monopod that also works as a light stand and comes with a fluid head. Buy the PINETA Pro if you want the taller 162 cm monopod with a 10 kg payload. Buy the PINETA 2.0 if you want the same 10 kg capacity in a slightly shorter, lighter build. All three are YC Onion carbon fibre monopods with a swivelling pedal base.

This guide compares the three using the maker's published specifications, so you can pick by height, weight and the kind of shooting you do.

YC Onion TAKO Nano: the travel monopod that doubles as a light stand

The TAKO Nano with the FX50 fluid head folds to 69 cm and fits a 24 inch suitcase at an angle. Height adjusts with one fingertip lift. Everyday height is 141 cm, and a hidden fourth section takes it to 172 cm for special shots. The maker advises using the first three sections first, for best stability.

The pedal base switches between fixed support, hiking pole, ground and light stand modes, and its Arca-compatible connection takes a telephoto lens, an Arca plate, a leg tube, a mic or a vertical head. The FX50 head pans 360 degrees, tilts from -62 to +85 degrees and is rated to 3 kg.

Best for: travel, events and video shooters who want one support for a camera and a light.

YC Onion PINETA Pro: the tallest and the highest payload

The PINETA Pro MQP162 reaches 162 cm and carries a safe payload of 10 kg. Its pedal base swivels 18 degrees each way with damping, and the two support leg angles, 40 and 76 degrees, give a stable stance. The top screw takes 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch, and a trigger release with a safety lock sets the height. It packs to 67 cm without the base.

If you want a fluid head on it, the PINETA Pro with the FH60S fluid head is available as a kit. The base is also sold separately as the PINETA Pro pedal base.

Best for: wildlife and sports shooters with heavier telephoto lenses, and anyone who wants the extra height.

YC Onion PINETA 2.0: the same payload, a little shorter and lighter

The PINETA 2.0 MQC158 reaches 158 cm and also carries 10 kg. It weighs 1.68 kg with the pedal base, and the base itself is 816 g. It folds to 76 cm. For a closer comparison of the two PINETA models, read our PINETA Pro vs 2.0 guide.

Best for: photographers who want PINETA strength without the last few centimetres of height.

Which YC Onion monopod should you buy?

  • You need a monopod and a light stand in one: TAKO Nano.

If you often shoot from a fixed spot and want more stability, consider a tripod such as the TAKO tripod with the BC44 ball head.
